We sat down with Sinead Bovell—the model who talks tech—to find out more about her bold transition from business and finance into modeling and how she founded WAYE, an organization revolutionizing the way young people learn about technology and helps them build career paths that will sustain the digital shift. Here, she shares her personal journey, what being bold means to her, and of course, how Birdies help her feel bold, bright, and confident.
What’s a bold move you’ve made in your life?
Quitting my job and everything I had worked for to walk into a world that I knew nothing about—modeling. I’ve spent my entire life chasing other people’s versions of success. I went to school for finance and did my masters in business, with the goal of becoming a management consultant. But when I got there, I realized that this was not at all the person that I wanted to be. During that quarter-life crisis, I was scouted by a modeling agency. I didn’t know the first thing about fashion or modeling, but I saw it as an opportunity to finally create the version of life that I was truly passionate about.
What’s one way you plan to make a bold move this year?
I want to take WAYE Talks global and give young people around the world the tech education they deserve. This will also be the year that we go for funding.
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve been given about being bold and true to yourself?
My sister once told me: “ If there was no such thing as salary or job titles, what would you be doing? What life would you be building?” That really stuck with me.
What advice would you give future generations of women to live boldly and with purpose?
Your dream job should be an extension of your life and who you are. Often that means you’ll have to start from scratch and create it yourself. Don’t be afraid to do that.
How do Birdies make you feel bright, bold, and confident?
These last few years for me have been all about building a life in a lane that I am truly passionate about. Doing things differently. Waking up and being excited to stand out and chart my own course but also have fun along the way. That’s EXACTLY how Birdies makes me feel.
