We talked to Lauren Chan—a plus-size model, writer, and former Glamour fashion editor—to learn more about her collaborations with brands and designers like Lane Bryant and Tanya Taylor and how she launched her own brand of luxury womenswear for women sizes 12 and up. Here, she shares her personal journey, what inspires her to be bold, and of course, how Birdies help her feel bold, bright, and confident.
What’s a bold move you’ve made in your life?
Quitting my job to start my plus-size fashion business Henning, which we’re raising money for now!
Who or what inspires you to be bold?
My Henning community and customers. They are the reason I work hard and take risks.
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve been given about being bold and true to yourself?
My friend Ashley Graham often told me to say kind things to myself in the mirror. It helped me genuinely love and appreciate my body—and from there, everything else about me.
What advice would you give future generations of women to live boldly and with purpose?
Lean into what make you different; that’s what makes you great.
How do Birdies make you feel bright, bold, and confident?
First of all, they come in my size. Which, at an 11, isn’t always the case! Second, I love the colors and statement fabrics. Third, they’re comfortable, which allows me to be peak confident.
