5 Questions with Fashion Bloggers Natalie & Dylana Suarez

We talked to fashion bloggers and sisters Natalie and Dylana Suarez to find out more about their social media following and work in the fashion industry. Here, they share their personal journeys, what inspires them to be bold, and of course, how Birdies help them feel bold, bright, and confident.

What is your definition of bold and how do you incorporate this into your day-to-day life?

Natalie: Bold is being fearless in all that you are—all of your differences, your uniqueness, and letting those things really shine through. I express my boldness with a red lipstick, a powerful blazer, and a good shoe. But really, it starts with knowing that every day should be lived to the fullest, in your highest potential, and letting your voice be heard. All the little things that I incorporate into my style inspire that.

What's a bold move you've made in your life?

Dylana: I decided to move all the way across the country to Philadelphia, PA in 2011 for a new job in fashion. It was really scary to leave my family for the first time to live in a city I knew nothing about. I wouldn't have fallen in love with the East Coast if I didn't take this chance of moving so far away from home. I feel like I finally found myself creatively once I adapted to the East Coast and began my real path to where I am now in my career.

What advice would you give future generations of women to live boldly and with purpose?

Natalie: I want women to always know their self worth and that our imperfections are what make us beautiful and unique. I think with that confidence and mentality we can do anything and make our dreams come true. I think the future generations of women are a lot more conscious about their minds, bodies, and how they want to live their lives. I think having that passion and fire inside us gives us that hope to better ourselves and the world we live in.

Who or what inspires you to be bold?

Dylana: So many people inspire me in different ways, like my mom, my sister Natalie, and other public figures who give back to their communities in very outward ways. But if I were to choose someone in the industry who is known on a global scale, I would have to say Rei Kawakubo of Comme de Garcons. Her body of work speaks to me, and I really love the passion that drives what she creates. Her type of boldness, not just in fashion but in the entire world of art as self-expression, really defines what it means to think outside the box and create from within—even if it is something not everyone will understand. But what she creates is open to interpretation, and I find that so inspiring. Her limitless type of risk-taking reminds me to find my own bold voice and vision.

How do Birdies make you feel bright, bold, and confident?

Natalie: Birdies are shoes that I can trust to take me just about anywhere and look amazing. I can wear them on the plane when I'm traveling and straight into a meeting. They are versatile and gentle on my feet, which I love. It's like walking on clouds. I think they are so sophisticated and just the perfect shoe to throw on with a pair of jeans or a mini skirt. They're a timeless shoe that makes me feel unstoppable because I can wear them absolutely anywhere and for any occasion.

Dylana: They make me feel super comfortable and light on my feet. I feel like I can be on my feet all day and keep going in them! When I'm comfortable, I feel confident, and when I am confident, I am at my boldest potential. I love how sleek the leather ones are, and I have a fun navy velvet pair that really add personality.
